Recorded into Reaper on a Windows machine I built in college for music production, finally being put to use.
I had a few starter mics and a firewire interface, but I barely knew how to use any of it and definitely couldn't sing
I discovered I had something of a style to my songwriting,
and it was nothing like what I
typically
listened to
Effervescent Love 2015
I got strep throat for a few weeks in January 2015 and thought I sounded a bit like Mark Lannegan,
so I wrote a couple songs. That momentum outlived the strep and avalanched into a decent collection of songs over the next few months.
Come Over 2015
I think it's the only song I've written in a 3 or 6 time signature.
Winter Solace 2015
Trying to get into that streppy range again, but it's gone 😞.
Working title.
Alone 2015
Not having the raspiness of strep as a crutch is rough.
East-West Shield 2015
I think the lyrics need reworking, but it's probably the most intricate overdubbing work I did that year.
Lungs on Hold 2015
Really inconsistent vocal performance, but one of my favorite overall songs in the collection.
Win or Lose 2015
One of the few I've bothered to re-learn in reent years.
Kindness 2015
The only song I've recorded drums to, an instrument I don't really play,
which was made more difficult by the fact that I didn't know I was doing to do that,
so the previous takes weren't synchronized to a metronome.
Anyway, I think I'd like to rework this one to ditch the nineties pop sound.
I'm definitely not a fan of the chorus.
I remember slapping that together and giving it a solid kick down the field.
Shoulders 2015
Probably the most listenable of the bunch.
Not so Weak 2015
Needs lyrical reworking. I really like the "chorus" chord progression and even worked up a version of it on piano at one point.
Good Bye 2015
Another chorus I'm not crazy about.
Working title.
Her 2015?
Lyrically all over the place. I'm generally pretty self conscious about it, but the guitar work is a little redeeming.
Just a little.
Exile 2015
One of two songs I started writing in college but took years to finish.
Change 2015
The other one.
St. Louis 2015
Total lyrical overhaul needed. Might even make a good instrumental follow-up to Change.
