These are predominantly demos and rough outlines recorded into Apple's Voice Memos app, with the occassional post-processing or overdubbing in Logic Pro
Rook 2020
I wrote this for a dear friend's kid. He's like a nephew to me.
I was there the chilly March night they brought him home from the hospital.
I didn't miss that kid's birthday party until 2020, for
obvious
reasons,
so I wrote him this song.
Escape Velocity 2018
It took me three years to write a song after The Kansas Tapes.
This was the song.
The original demo recording is unintelligable.
This take is much better, if a bit slow.
Working title.
Furlough 2020
I wrote this one in a hurry, and it shows.
I think I like the song, but I don't know if I like the recording.
The Trickle 2021
I sometimes unconsciously slip into southern accents of unspecified and inconsistent locales while singing this one.
I'm never sure if I should lean into that or not.
I've never captured a take of this that I'm happy with, but I like the song conceptually.
Gentle Scars 2023
I fostered a kitten that my brother found on his neighbor's porch.
Recorded in a professional podcast recording studio!
But still just on an iPhone mic 😞
Sensative 2024
Not a typo
Dutchish Duchess 2024
The Sedar Freeze 2024
Michael 2024
Just venting a little work frustration.
Slideshow Bob 2024
Working title derived from a mispronunciation in a take that I'm otherwise fond of considering how difficult this one was to perform.
Time Was 2024
I have a whole verse for the outro chord progression,
but I'm a little timid about publishing those lyrics just yet.
Worst Foot Forward 2025
Three different verses about three different subjects, none of them people.
Oral Fixations 2025
Started as a bass line and migrated to acoustic.
I'm sure it'll all come back together nicely some day,
when it loses it's iphone-demo-baby teeth and enters the hormonal world of full-band demos.
Just Sayin' 2025
Look, it's supposed to be cheeky and fun.
If it offends you, please stick around for the bridge.
I don't actually say that.
Parsnip 2025
Stardew Valley is fun,
and using second person to talk to yourself is a useful lyrical device.
I might have more to say about this one.
Wasp! 2025
Shortest first verse I've ever written.
I'm not sure I should be "rapping", but it was fun.
